Happy New Year

Originally uploaded by Omar G!.

Wishing everyone a terrific start to 2008. May it be peaceful, exciting and full of hope.

It’ll be a big one for our family with the imminent arrival of our son in the next few weeks. And, we have our beautiful son Gabriel who continues to grow, amaze us and keeps us in stitches in each day. We are especially thankful this coming year for our family who always support us.

Best Wishes!

Visit from Santa

Shorty has been dressing up as Santa for as long as we can remember. Gabriel didn’t let on that he knew who it was but he did make a sly mention this morning asking if “my Nino was Santa?” and we just waved it off.

What happens when you get six Flickr members together? Good times, some laughs, some jumps and a whole bunch of snazzy pictures. Not to mention some good hearted Nikon vs. Canon discussion/jabbing.

See the entire set here.

Dottie’s Chucks

Had a great time with Gabriel and a bunch of Flickr friends making the rounds at Santana Row. A bit on the cold side but was able to get some nice shots and enjoy some good company. See pictures here.

Retro Ornament

Theme for this year was Air Jordan. The “ornaments” are actual Jordan’s that belong to Gabriel and our shortly to arrive Baby Boy. A full picture will be posted shortly but we need to get a star with lights as the gold star blends into the walls far too much.

Nice way to display a series of images. Click the image to get to the next one.

The Mitchell Report will be released on Thursday.. By all accounts, at least 50 names will be revealed of players who knowingly took performance enhancing drugs. Some will be validations of what is already known, others will be surprises. The bigger story will be the big cloud that will be cast over the game as rumors and heresay become fact to a certain degree.

I have my own feelings on the report itself. I’m not sure it will tell the whole story. I wish it would. I’d rather have it all out on the table now than hear about it endlessly for the next few years. We’ve already had players with direct knowledge come out and say they did not speak to Mitchell and his team. Additionally, Mitchell undercuts himself by his position with the Red Sox (wonder where that Paul Byrd leak came from during the playoffs?) and Walt Disney (owners of ESPN).

Suspensions will likely be in the vein of what we’ve already seen with Jay Gibbons and Jose Guillen (15 days). If that’s the case, it’s no big deal. Consider that Guillen got the suspension as he was signing a contract paying him $36 million over three years. Are steroids and HGH that bad if they pay so well?

As an A’s fan, my bigger issue would be with players that I root for and having them tied to this scandal. Granted, Oakland can tie it’s 4th World Series trophy in 1989 to a number of players who were juicing (Canseco, Big Mac and likely a few more). We also have the A’s hero and MVP Jason Giambi who has admitted his own wrongdoing. Something tells me we’ll have a few more names in the mix. Not basing it on any knowledge but just a hunch.

We saw the movie a few weeks back and Gabriel was all about the dance scene with Rubberneckin’.

Project

Doing an Information Design project wrapped around the “iPod in the Classroom”. The document includes a bunch of information on what the iPod is and the resources available to teachers and students. The project itself refers to a teacher having access to an iPod but could easily be shifted to be used in a laptop-centric model.

This is a potential image to use in the document. Part of the project includes a listing of “Best Educational Podcasts” and this one is at the top. Heavily used by many teachers in our district.

It’s been a pretty stressful semester for me. Not that I can’t handle the work, it’s the adjustment to being back in school after nearly a decade away and fitting it into life as it is now. School’s one thing when your single without a mortgage hanging over you. Something else entirely when I’m balancing work/home/school/random-other-thing. Gloria’s taken on an extra load for sure without a complaint.

The cool thing is that I’ve done some kick ass work in my classes. I’m seriously doing some quality stuff in my design class. Learned a lot.

Nonetheless, I will be happy once it’s over :)
