52: Week 2Originally uploaded by Omar G!.
It’s MacWorld time.
The next couple of nights will be filled with plenty of rumor and here-say. But, come Tuesday morning, Jobs will deliver the word from the Moscone Center and reveal the new gear from Apple. I’m thinking a new AppleTV to go along with the iTunes Movie Rental Service. I also think there will be a new “something” that will bring Apple into another market besides Macs, iPods and iPhones. It may be the AppleTV fully realized into a mature product or something completely new.
This will be the first time in about 7 years I won’t be in attendance at the keynote. I will attend later in the week but time doesn’t allow me to get away on Tuesday. I will be glued to the blogs and sites such as macrumors who have live coverage - be sure of that.
My Mac history includes our first modern family computer - Apple Performa 6300. my dad got it for us at Christmas back in the mid 90s. It came with Mac OS 7.5.2 and a faulty motherboard which required replacement. It was that computer that truly piqued my interest into the nuts and bolts of computer systems. By the end of the year, I secured a job as a technician and was on my way.
Go forward to the present, I’ve had a number of computers - iBooks, PowerBooks and iMac - and my current is my favorite. It’s the 20″ Intel iMac from January 2006. Apple made the switch to Intel and we jumped on board quickly. In addition, we own a bunch of iPods. I can even say that I bought my 1st Gen iPod on day 1. It was partially funded by selling a sealed copy of WinXP which I won in a raffle.
I’ve been lucky to spend most of my professional career dealing with Macs - desktops, laptops, servers. Yeah, I have to work with Windows systems but there’s a certain something when you deal with a Mac. I take a lot of pride in knowing that I helped provide plenty of users the means to accomplish everything from developing lesson plans, movies, slideshows, websites and more.
